Standard Modeler Features -
The ElectricImage 3D Modeler introduces a major leap in modeling technology by offering a solid modeling/NURBS surface hybrid, with the power to create anything from buildings to space cruisers or
from apples to complex organic life forms.
While most 3D modeling products are created for the architect or engineer, the ElectricImage 3D Modeler is designed for 3D animators of all kinds. The intuitive interface, extensive tool set, and easy to use NURBS technology will be sure to accommodate the most demanding of projects.
To build great technology, you have got to start with great technology, and Electric Image Universe chose to build upon the ACIS Geometry Engine from Spatial Technology Inc. (AMEX:STY), the industry standard
sol id modeling engine. Electric Image Universe then extended ACIS by adding an incredible array of surfacing tools, and making the distinction between the tools transparent to the user by building a fast, intuitive and platform independent user environment.
The ElectricImage 3D Modeler is designed from the ground up for animators. With all the power of heavy-duty industrial design programs, incorporating an easy to use interface geared towards the artistic user, the ElectricImage 3D Modeler makes the modeling process far more approachable than ever before.
The use of the ACIS Solid Modeling Kernel allows the EI 3D Modeler to easily and flawlessly import and export ACIS .sat format files to and from other applications. The .sat format is an industry standard and is a publicly available specification from Spatial Technology Corp. This feature allows for quick and painless integration of the EI 3D Modeler with a host of other leading 3D CAD/CAM MCAD packages, such as AutoCAD, Bentley, Intergraph Microstation, HP Solid Designer, and several other workstation class 3D applications. The robust surface solid modeling capability of the EI 3D Modeler makes a perfect substitute for dedicated 3D surface applications such as Alias/Wavefront Studio, and 3Designer, which require
conversion of their data into IGES format. When the EI Modeler is used with another ACIS-based applications, no conversion is necessary as .sat is native to ACIS. This means that users can exchange information between the modeler and another .sat-based programs without any loss of data or degradation of precision.
In addition to the ACIS Geometry Engine, the technicians at ElectricImage have added additional functionality, including the creation of an easy to use interface for which ElectricImage is world renown.
This product is supported by cutting edge technology and an extremely powerful feature set:
Solid Modeling Power - Solid models have mass, so that when a hole is drilled into an obje ct, it will be seen as going through the entire object like a brick, not an eggshell. Create solid shapes, or use the ElectricImage provided solid shapes, glue them together, cut pieces away, or use the difference of the two pieces for more complex objects.
ÜberNURBS - make modeling as easy as sculpting in clay, or stretching and pulling on a piece of taffy.
Just start out with a simple solid primitive and then pull and drag for instant creation of a shape that other methods would take hours to create. A host of tools are included to make your ÜberNURBS project a success, including Subdividing, Inner Border, Loop, and Rib Control as well as Visibility controls among others.
NURBS - A complete set of Nurbs tools including Edit Surface, Elevate/Reduce Degree, Increase/Decrease Multiplicity, Weight Assignments, and Curves, are here for the taking.
Traditional 3D Tools - More traditional tools such as surface networks (Gordon's surfaces), sweep, revolve and extrude tools, bound ary surfaces (Coon's surfaces) and skinning are also offered, blended surfaces, profile skins and surface continuity control. Boolean operations are available on surface objects, offering an unprecedented amount of capability.
Boolean Operations - Allow for the ability to cut holes into, combine or intersect models in one simple step. Multi-Dimensional Booleans can be created in one, two or three dimensions. What does this mean to you? Objects can be combined to create infinitely thin lines and planes. A very robust boolean library guarantees that shapes which some boolean modelers cannot handle (often called non-manifold shapes) will likely work just fine in the ElectricImage 3D Modeler.
Bevels - Real world objects never have edges that are knife-edge sharp (unless it is a knife!), so why should your models? ElectricImage 3D Modeler has a great beveling tool, which offers con trol over the size of the bevel radius and whether the bevel is round or flat. A fillet is the opposite of a corner bevel, and is used to smooth an intersection between two connected objects. The Fillet tool offers control over the size of the radius of the fillet, and whether the fillet is round or flat.
Knives The ElectricImage 3D Modeler has a host of Knives that allow you to cut parts out of objects in your project.
Rendering The objects created in the ElectricImage Modeler can be rendered in ElectricImage 3D, giving you nearly limitless material handling and texturing capability. The models will then be rendered using the award winning ElectricImage Camera for exceptional clarity and realism.
Quick Draw 3D RAVE Drawing Engine - Special attention has been given to the ElectricImage 3D Modeler, with a high degree of performance achieved through the Apple® QuickDrawTM 3D "Rave" environment. When coupled with a high-end graphics card, interface performance is outstanding.
